Merrimack River

Canoe, kayak and paddle board rentals are available on the Merrimack River in Concord NH Tuesday – Sunday. All trips begin at Quickwater and shuttles run every hour between 9 am – 1 pm. Begin your trip at our shop where you register and sign release waivers, then we transport you upstream to the trip of your choice. You then return to our location at the end of your trip. Your rentals include kayak, paddle, pfd and transportation. We request that you arrive 30 minutes prior to your reservation for registration. RENTALS MUST BE RETURNED BY 4PM. 5-mile Trip. Jamie Welch Park in Boscawen to Quickwater (2-3 hours)

Jamie Welch Park to Quickwater is a leisurely paddle taking approximately 2-3 hours. Beaches are abundant on this trip so there are many places for paddlers to stop, eat lunch, play frisbee or work on their tan and enjoy the afternoon. There is great fishing and a fair amount of bald eagle activity in this area so bring your binoculars and camera to take home some memories of your trip. Take-out is at our landing found on the left side of the river at the Routes 3/4 bridge that run into Penacook / Boscawen.

10-mile Trip. Merrimack County Launch to Quickwater (3-4 hours)

This trip is very popular for those looking to spend a day on the water. More scenic and rustic the 10-mile trip feels remote without being remote. There is abundant wildlife and great fishing and swimming. You’ll encounter a few rope swings in this section. While there are fewer beaches on the first half of this trip, its a great way to start the day as you eventually find the beaches five miles down river. The half way mark of this trip is the old bridge pilings from the Canterbury / Boscawen bridge that was dismanteld in 2014. Once past this section you find plenty of beaches to enjoy the rest of the day with. So plan on paddling in the morning and relaxing in the afternoon on the beaches in the lower section of our trips.

15-mile Trip. Franklin High School to Quickwater (6+ hours)

A trip for the adventurous or those looking to kayak or canoe camp for the night. The Merrimack River begins here behind the High School where the Winnipesaukee and Pemigewassett rivers meet. Within the first 1.5 miles there are 4 short sets of Class I rapids that are easy to maneuver through making for an exciting trip. This part of the trip is the most remote feeling of the three trips we offer. You’ll meander through farmland that is very scenic, offering a beautiful journey of peace and tranquility found so close to home. There is a fair amount of bird activity in this section such as Great Blue Herons, Egrets, Hawks and Bald Eagles and great fishing. Species include bass, trout, salmon and catfish. There are no beaches but there are places to stop along the way and stretch as needed.

Reservations are required for all rentals or on a first come / first serve basis. We encourage you to reserve a few days ahead of your desired date as our rentals fill up quickly. We welcome reservations by phone or email, so why wait until tomorrow when you can RESERVE TODAY. Just make sure to tell us the type of rental you prefer, how many in your party, and what time you would like to hit the river, and we’ll confirm your reservation by email. We welcome groups of any sizes for family outings, youth camps, corporate outings, team building or leadership training. We can accommodate groups of up to 50 people. Groups can spend a day on the river and plan a picnic lunch at our place after your outing.

We offer Summer & Winter Business to Business rental programs for SUP Yoga Instructors, Fitness Coaches, Health Clubs, Schools, Recreation Camps, Summer Camps & Youth Groups that are looking to offer additional programs for their participants. We structure a simple program suitable for each organizations needs including duration of use. Delivery and pickup of rentals can be arranged. Please Email Us for more information.

We offer put-in and take-outs at our landing for anyone wanting to hit the river while parking their car in a safe place that will give them peace of mind. We charge $5 per kayak, canoe, sup, tube or raft and this includes your parking for the day. You must check-in at the office to register.
Please arrive 20 – 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure for registration and fitting of your PFD. Participants will be required to sign a release waiver of responsibility. Parents must sign for children under 18 years of age. Rentals are due off the water by 4 p.m. For those returning late, we assess a $5 per 15 minute late charge.

Quickwater Canoe & Kayak LLC cannot be held liable for participants actions on or off the water or transportation risk to those participating in our shuttle only service. All participants accept full responsibility for their actions at our facility and on the river. At the discretion of our staff, rentals that are deemed excessively dirty on return will be charged an additional $10.00 cleaning fee. While this may sound unreasonable, we know how much dirt and sand should be in the rentals, so please understand we have to pay staff for their extra time to assure your rental is clean for the next customer. We consider this common courtesy as you expect your rental to be clean, and we expect it to be clean for you. In the event of damage to rentals, the renter will be charged repair or replacement fees for the full value of the damaged item or rental.

The best advice we can give is when planning a day on the river, think about how you would pack for the beach and apply it here. Almost the same things are needed with some individual considerations.

  • Snacks or lunch packed in a soft cooler. No hard coolers or Styrofoam coolers. We will refuse your Styrofoam
  • Drybag or waterproof box for personal belongings such as keys, wallet, cell phone etc (we rent bags if needed)
  • Beach bag for towels
  • Grocery bags for trash
  • Bottled Water
  • Hat
  • Sunblock
  • Swimsuit or clothing that wicks water quickly. Nylon, polyester, spandex etc. DO NOT BRING COTTON
  • Sandals or flip flops to protect your feet
  • A change of cloths for the car after
